The Honorable Alisha Thomas Searcy is a wife, mom, education leader, and champion for children. She is the new President of the Southern Region for Democrats for Education Reform. In this role, Alisha is expanding DFER’s reach into southern states, building a network of education champions. She empowers them with policy and political support, aimed ensuring every child receives access to high-quality education. Prior to DFER, Alisha was CEO and Founder of AT Morgan Enterprises, a public speaking, and education consulting firm after laboring 20 years in education, policy, and nonprofit leadership.

At 23, Alisha was the first African American elected to the Georgia House of Representatives from Cobb County. During her six-term tenure, Searcy authored and co-authored some of the most important public education laws impacting teachers, students, and families, including the state’s Teacher and Leader Evaluation law, and the constitutional amendment that created the State Charter School Commission. She has also served as Superintendent of an all-girls network of public schools in the metro Atlanta area achieving great academic gains for students.

In addition to her work as an entrepreneur and education non-profit executive, Alisha also serves as a regular political contributor on Fox 5 Atlanta’s Georgia Gang on Sunday mornings. She is also a frequent contributor on radio, podcasts, national education panels, and has been featured in publications including Essence, Ebony and Marie Claire magazines.

Alisha earned a Bachelor of Arts from Spelman College and a Master’s degree from Kennesaw State University. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, serves on several boards including the Joseph and Evelyn Lowery Institute for Justice and Human Rights and Georgia First.

Alisha is married to retired state trooper, Carlos Searcy, and they reside in Cobb County, Georgia with their family. Believing in a well-balanced life, when Alisha is not working in education or media, she enjoys dancing with the Lady Diamonds, playing golf, and travelling- having visited five out of seven continents so far.
