Senator Chris Coon’s earned double digit victory in the November general election over his Republican opponent. He first won the seat vacated by Vice President Joe Biden in a special election over Tea Party candidate Christine O’Donnell in 2010.

The 54 year old Coon’s is likely to face relatively modest reelection challenges in the years to come in progressive Delaware. He sits on the Appropriations Committee, and is the ranking member on the Subcommittee for Financial Services and General Government. He is an adamant supporter of education reform, a Race to the Top advocate, and a firm believer that we can turn around our nation’s failing schools through bold policy. He has taken on an active role in the Senate, and seizes every opportunity he has to advance our public schools.

Senator Coons knows that if we are to raise student achievement, we must act with a sense of urgency; his successful reelection last fall ensures he will continue to put education at the forefront of his Senate agenda for the coming term.
