DFER Releases Statement on Biden, Harris Inauguration
January 20, 2021
NEW YORK, N.Y. (Jan. 20)—Democrats for Education Reform (DFER) National President Shavar Jeffries released the following statement today in celebration of the inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris.
“Today is a hopeful day for our country as we swear in Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. and Kamala Devi Harris as the 46th President and Vice President of the United States of America.
For the first time in our nation’s history, and a century after the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, a woman will hold one of the highest offices in our Nation. It is especially powerful that this glass ceiling was broken by a Black and Indian-American woman in particular, given the ways in which race and gender have long served as gatekeepers to opportunity.
After four years that tested the fibers of our democracy, we look forward to a Biden administration that will not only restore dignity to our democratic institutions, but also will undertake significant steps toward the advancement of civil, human, and economic rights for our Nation.”
