FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW ORLEANS, LA – Following U.S. Senate candidate Caroline Fayard’s concession speech, Democrats for Education Reform-Louisiana’s State Director, Eva Kemp, released the following statement:
“DFER-Louisiana supports strong leaders who are committed to improving the education landscape for each and every child. In this election, we were proud to support Caroline Fayard as that champion for kids. While it is unfortunate that she did not advance to the run-off, Caroline fought a courageous campaign with the best interests of Louisiana’s children and families as its core. Caroline serves as an example to others interested in pursuing public service through elected office,” said Eva Kemp. “She is a leader who is willing to stand up to the old way of politics that only benefits a select few at the top, a leader who recognizes each citizen is entitled to equal rights under the law, and a leader who understands that access to an equitable, world-class education is the surest pathway to a brighter future for our state. This is a type of leader that DFER is proud to stand behind.”
DFER is a political organization comprised of progressive Democrats working to cultivate and support Democratic leaders to champion the needs and interests of our nation’s public schoolchildren. DFER aims to encourage members of the Democratic party to embrace education reform and be champions of students, especially those stuck in persistently failing schools. Formed in 2007, DFER operates in 14 states across the country, working with education leaders to combat the decline of our education system and standing up for our most vulnerable citizens.
DFER-Louisiana has a local advisory board that provides support and feedback on our work in New Orleans and across Louisiana. Our board members are former U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, Dana Peterson, Adrienne Moore, Ann Duplessis, Sandra Herman and Peter Cook.
